Amalia began working for Martha’s Income Tax in 1997 after graduating with a business degree in Mexico. She moved to Las Vegas and started working in the tax and notary industry. Before long, she realized she had found her niche and passion. Ten years later, Amalia took decisive action and seized the opportunity when the original owner listed Martha’s Income Tax business for sale.
Amalia acquired the business and, over the following years, transformed Martha’s Income Tax into a well-known, full-service firm specializing in tax preparation, IRS applications for tax identification numbers and business-related forms, notary services, and document translation. The business is recognized for its personalized, bilingual support and has built a loyal client base that is highly respected and trusted throughout the Las Vegas, NV community.
Over time, Amalia recognized the need for additional capital to continue growing her business and maintaining a high level of service. While attending a Women’s Business & Entrepreneurship event at the UNR Extension in Las Vegas, she connected with Noe Gonzalez, a Business Development Officer with Prestamos CDFI, who helped her secure a business loan. This infusion of capital enabled Amalia to enhance operational efficiency by investing in updated hardware, software, and advanced technology.
Following her loan from Prestamos CDFI, Amalia received technical assistance and business advising from the Business Empowerment Team. Working with Isa Villanueva, a Small Business Bookkeeping and Financial Literacy Specialist, she enhanced her knowledge of financing, bookkeeping, and QuickBooks. The guidance, combined with an easy-to-navigate lending process, helped her strengthen her business skills.
