Inspiration for launching a business often comes from many different sources. Sometimes, it can be a problem that needs to be solved or a market gap that needs to be filled. Other times, inspiration can come from our own homes, our culture, and our communities. This was the case for Andria Muñoz, founder of Andria’s Tienda – a small business featuring her own handmade jewelry, as well as a selection of curated, cultural items from other like-minded business owners.
Andria first learned the art of jewelry making from her Abuelita, who loved collecting and wearing jewelry. Andria would practice repairing her grandmother’s pieces when items broke, which eventually led to her experimenting with her own designs and creations. Then in 2019, Andria attended a vendor market in Los Angeles and was inspired by all the local businesses selling Mexican-inspired merchandise. This led to her creating her first collection of handmade jewelry and officially launching her business.

Over the next few years, Andria grew her businesses from her signature, handmade jewelry collection that sold primarily at local vendor markets to an online store. Then, she expanded her product offerings to include apparel, paper goods, and accessories from other small businesses – creating opportunities for collaboration and broader economic impact.
During the pandemic, Andria first began exploring the idea of expanding to a brick-and-mortar location. While in-person events were limited, a friend introduced her to Palabra’s Bookstore, a local shop that was hosting events with retail spaces available for rent. Andria carefully evaluated her finances, comparing costs of market vendor fees to rent and other expenses. Once she determined that the investment was within her budget, she made the leap. In 2023, she signed her lease and opened her store, turning Andria’s Tienda to a community space that continues to propel her business forward.

Andria is a strong advocate for her business – constantly seeking opportunities to showcase, collaborate, and grow. Most importantly, she prioritizes gaining the insights she needs to improve her operations. One of those resources she turns to for continued learning and support is the Prestamos Women’s Business Center (WBC).
“Prestamos WBC has helped me understand business better. I take advantage of a lot of free webinars regarding business topics like marketing, business planning. I feel more confident now that I have more tools under my belt.”

Andria’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when passion fuels purpose. Her story highlights how investing in yourself and your business can lead to unexpected new heights, and underscores the power of continuous learning, collaboration and support as you grow alongside your business.
